# Metrics Drains

# Overview

Metric Drains lets you route metrics for [Apps](/core-concepts/apps/overview) and [Databases](/core-concepts/managed-databases/managing-databases/overview) to the destination of your choice. Metrics Drains are typically useful to:

* Persist metrics for the long term

* Alert when metrics cross thresholds of your choice

* Troubleshoot performance problems
